Your Next Toilet Might Be Smarter Than You

Going Green,

Smartphones. Smart cars. Smart toilets? Don’t look now, but that’s precisely what manufacturers are ready to offer anyone who’s ever found themselves … indisposed yet still interested in what the weather is like in Italy.

Here’s a look at how our loos are about to change.

We’re definitely not in Kansas anymore. The Toto Neorest NX2 provides something few people realized they needed: a spa for their bottom. Here’s a toilet with:

  • An integrated personal cleansing system featuring warm water and air dryer
  • Heated seat
  • An in-bowl deodorizer
  • Electrolyzed water to remove waste

Not smart enough for you? Kohler’s Numi 2.0 (please don’t giggle at the numbering) offers a toilet with Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa built in. That’s a good thing since Alexa enables you to request music to play out of the built-in speakers. We suggest: “Movin’ Out” by Billy Joel, “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5, and “Never Make a Move Too Soon” by B.B. King.

Like the idea of a more intelligent toilet but would really like one that comes with a remote control? Ove Decors has you covered. The remote control that accompanies their toilet — yes, a remote control — allows you to choose and set a variety of preferences (such as seat temperature) and engage energy saver mode.

Not every new toilet development favors extravagance. Some can help conserve water, prevent the spread of germs using touchless flushing technology, and stop overflows during clog problems. In fact, one toilet doesn’t even flush.

That non-flushing toilet is the Nature’s Head dry toilet. It’s waterless and self-contained — you don’t have to hook it up to plumbing. It also diverts urine, which helps eliminate unpleasant smells. The rest of the waste is treated with a composting solution that does not need to be emptied for weeks at a time. It’s considered a smart solution for RVs, boats, and similarly small spaces.

Make the Smart Move and Call WaterWork Plumbing

Toilets and their use are topics few people are comfortable talking about. But that’s okay because soon enough you’ll be able to discuss it one-on-one with your toilet.

You can, of course, also talk to us! If you’re in the market for a new toilet, give the newer and smart models a look. When you find one you like, WaterWork Plumbing will be happy to install it.
